Confer and the Community

Community means a lot to Confer Plastics. It is our corporate culture to support our friends and neighbors in an effort to make the area – and our country – a better place.

The Confer Classic Golf Tournament

Happy Gilmore Would Be Proud

We organize and run the Confer Classic Golf Tournament every June that benefits an organization near and dear to the Confer family’s hearts -- the Boy Scouts of America.

The WNY Scout Council of the BSA serves 5,000 cub scouts, scouts, and explorers from Niagara, Erie, Orleans, Genesee, Livingston and Wyoming counties. The Council and its numerous troops and packs offer an incredibly-effective program to its scouts. It owns and operates two camps – Camp Sam Wood in Pike, NY and Camp Scouthaven in Freedom, NY – which have helped the Council in furthering the Scout principles of using an outdoor experience to foster character, preparedness, leadership, and self-sufficiency in our scouts….young men and women who will go on to lead, change, and serve our nation in the future.

Over the seven years of this event, the tournament has delivered $129,000 in proceeds to the scouts.

If you’d like information on how you can help the tournament as a golfer, sponsor, or raffle item donor, please email us at plastics@conferplastics.com.

Financial Giving

Financial Giving

Confer Plastics gives substantial monetary support to only a select few entities that help local youth and young adults, organizations the impact and leadership of we are familiar with and confident in. We feel that our money is best served being spent on youth, giving them the chance to play, learn, thrive, and succeed. It’s an investment in America’s future.

The organizations we support are:

  • The Boy Scouts of America
  • The United Way of Greater Niagara
  • Alfred University with the Douglas C Confer Scholarship
  • SUNY Brockport with the Confer Plastics Scholarship
  • Both Alfred University and SUNY Brockport also receive significant annual funding of their student emergency funds

$50 Dollar Gift Card
To The Made In America Store

While Confer Plastics’ financial giving is limited to only the above organizations, our charity doesn’t end there. We also donate to many local events and fundraisers that help smaller organizations (like churches and schools) or, especially, families that are in great need in times of health issues and other crises. These are the people who need help, the people we want to help.

Every year we donate to more than 200 raffles and benefits in Western New York. We give them either a $150 gift card redeemable for our patio furniture (bistro tables, bar tables, sports-themed tables) or a $50 gift cards that can be used at any of the Made in America Stores across WNY. We like what the Made in America Store and its owner Mark Andol stand for and we know people will enjoy buying high-quality American-made products.

If your organization or cause in Niagara, Orleans or Erie County is looking for such a prize to give away at a fundraising event, please feel free to contact us. We’ll gladly help most charity events. Please send your requests to Bob Confer via email at bob@conferplastics.com or postal mail at Confer Plastics, Inc.. 97 Witmer Rd., North Tonawanda, NY 14120

Plant Tours

A lot of companies shut themselves off to the community at large and don’t allow plant tours. Confer Plastics, on the other hand, welcomes visitors. Our doors are open to community organizations for kids and adults alike…schools, service organizations, etc. Plant tours typically last 1 hour and they give the visitors a chance to see American manufacturing in operation.

To schedule a plant tour for your group, email Bob Confer at bob@conferplastics.com

Community Impact Grants

Confer Plastics delivers $10,000 community impact grants to communities and organizations, with a focus on activities that get families outdoors. These grants are not on requested or competitive basis – instead, the Confer family identifies a need and they issue the funds.

In 2019, our grant was invested in Gratwick Park in North Tonawanda. We encouraged the City of North

Tonawanda to install a boat launch ticket kiosk, affording families from all over the chance to put their boats into the majestic Niagara River, which helps them enjoy the natural wonder and encourages them to spend their tourism dollars at waterfront businesses in the city.

In 2020, our $10,000 grant was donated to the Royalton-Hartland School District to invest in the school’s updated playground and also its new nature space where, among other things, the students will use our plastic gourds to raise and learn about purple martins.

In 2022, our grant was given to the Friends of the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. This will help them provide an inclusive experience for people with disabilities, affording them the ability to travel the trail at the Refuge’s visitor center and enjoy nature.
