Recognizing our first shift veterans

Today, we recognize our veterans on 1st shift…   We do Veterans Day the right way at Confer Plastics. To recognize the folks who DESERVE to have Veterans Day off, only Confer Plastics and Adecco personnel who are veterans or currently serving in the armed forces will have next Monday off and get the holiday pay that comes with it. The rest of the workforce will be working.   We do this to recognize the men and women who risked life, limb, and livelihood to ensure that we all have the freedoms that we enjoy.   These individuals will be made conspicuous by their absence at the plant, which will really hammer home the value that these folks have to our company AND our country.   These gentlemen on our first shift who were members of our armed forces are Cliff Hoover, Gary Warner, Robert Koteras, Carl Ealy, and Larry Szafranski.   We thank them for keeping America — and the world —...

PB&J Drive drop-off bin available at Confer Plastics

When people donate food to food pantries, usually it’s canned goods that kids all too often aren’t much interested in eating. That’s why Pete Robinson of Lockport founded the Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive in 2010: He wanted to provide local needy families with healthy foods that kids enjoy. This year’s PB&J Drive begins November 1st and goes till December 10th with donation bins for unopened jars of peanut butter, jelly and marshmallow Fluff being set up all over the Niagara Frontier. We are a drop-off site, not only for our coworkers’ donations, but also for anyone passing through North Tonawanda. The blue drop-off bin is just inside the front door of our office at 97 Witmer Road in North Tonawanda. If you stop by after our standard business hours, please place the jars on the office’s “front porch” (they’ll be protected from the elements there) and we will put them in the bin in the...

Confer donated to 216 raffles over the past 12 months

We’ve completed another annual cycle of giving. I’m always curious how many charity events we donate to across the region, so I track them from October 1 to September 30. In 2017-2018 we donated to 216 charities, benefits and raffles. To everyone of these events we donated $50 gift cards for the Made in America Store, an awesome retail mecca for people who value products proudly made in the USA. Even though our year of tracking our donations has ended, the giving doesn’t stop. We just keep on going. We love to give to the community, with a special emphasis on local events and fundraisers that help smaller organizations like churches, non-profits, scout troops and, especially, families that are in great need in times of health issues and other crises. So, don’t hesitate to ask for gift card. It’s the least we can do to help local organizations and families succeed in trying times and a trying economy. Here’s the roll call of causes we donated to: Alden’s Meals on Wheels American Legion Post 735 American Legion Post 264 American Legion Post 1451 Amherst Knights Youth Hockey AnJo Bombers Travel Baseball Anna Merritt PTA Autism Services Becca’s Closet Benefit for Tessa Breen Benefit for Edward Carias Benefit for Mariann Cochran Benefit for Bill Cody Benefit for Elysa Maurer Duncan Benefit for Angelina Edwards Benefit for Mia Frears Benefit for Kathy Gardner Benefit for John Gehl Benefit for Frank Granto Benefit for Sherri Guyette Benefit for Bill Kasperek Benefit for Patty Lorenz Benefit for Mark Mongeon Benefit for Jeffrey Morgan Benefit for Bev Murphy Benefit for Eric Olds Benefit for...

We are delighted that Lockport High School is expanding its career pathways program to show their students what jobs can be had in Niagara County and what education or skill sets will be needed for them. We look forward to working with Principal Wylke and her students as we extend to them job shadowing opportunities. Here’s the local paper’s report on this endeavor:...

Here’s the young man who helped with the Curve step recall

We recently initiated the voluntary recall for our Curve steps after a young man briefly got his arm stuck in one of the water circulation ports on the side wall of the step. Here he is. He is enjoying his pool thanks to his modified Curve step. We are grateful to him and his parents for quickly bringing this matter to our attention. It was their openness, understanding, and concern that helped ensure other families can peacefully enjoy their swimming...

Notice for dealers and distributors regarding the Curve recall

Since the 1970’s, Confer Plastics has been the industry leader in pool and spa entry systems (ladders and steps). Confer Plastics’ mission is to provide customers with high quality, safe and durable products at the best prices. In July 2018, and for the first time ever, Confer Plastics was advised that a child stuck his arm into a side opening on one of Confer Plastic’s Curve in-pool step systems and the arm became temporarily wedged. The child was able to remove his arm but did suffer some scratches. The side openings are present to assist in water circulation in the pool and are used by virtually every manufacturer of plastic in-pool step systems. Confer Plastics immediately investigated the event and determined that the side openings present a potential hazard. To address the potential hazard, Confer Plastics reported the incident to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). Confer Plastics then worked with the CPSC to notify consumers and to design a repair kit that completely removes the potential hazard. Because of Confer Plastic’s rapid and effective response, the CPSC accepted Confer Plastics into its Fast Track Recall Program. But Confer Plastics did not stop there. As an industry leader in safety, Confer Plastics has also redesigned its Curve in-pool step systems and removed the side openings. Because most other plastic in-pool step systems available to consumers have similar side openings, Confer Plastics is also working with pool and spa industry associations to raise awareness of the potential hazard that the side openings present. Confer Plastics hopes that the other manufacturers in the pool and spa industry will follow its lead...
