2010s in review

With the new year upon us, so is a new decade. It’s a good time to reflect on the decade that was at Confer Plastics. Here’s a recap of the 2010s in chronological order…

• Our 100-pound machine (one of the largest blow molders in North America) went into service
• We bought two molding machines: a dual-15 and a dual-20
• Doug Confer was given a second chance at life with quadruple bypass surgery
• The company was named the 2010 “Business of the Year” by the Chamber of Commerce of the Tonawandas
• Our spa cabinetry program was launched
• The Curve pool steps went to market
• We held an open house for our 40th anniversary – more than 600 people toured the plant
• We hired our first Burmese refugees who are an important part of our company and our country
• We added more land around our Liberty Drive facility
• We launched Veterans Day as a paid holiday for veterans only
• Buffalo Business First honored the company with their “overall excellence” award for manufacturers
• We began to issue the “Children Aren’t Waterproof” brochures with our pool and spa products as a means to help educate our consumers about water safety
• The Confer Classic Golf Tournament became an annual event benefitting the Boy Scouts
• The office was expanded to include a second floor with a prime view of the mighty Niagara River
• One of the biggest blow molders in the world was purchased, capable of dropping 145 pounds of material in one shot and make parts 15 feet long
• Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul toured the plant
• We had an Explorer Post at the plant
• Hurricane Harvey created a material crisis across the industry, cutting supplies dramatically. So, we installed two new silos to help us overcome supply woes if another hurricane cripples the Gulf Coast
• We made our last-ever fuel tank, because federal standards (first launched by California) no longer allow gas cans to be made the old fashioned way
• We displayed in the STEM Zone at the Niagara Falls airshow
• We donated $10,000 to the City of North Tonawanda so they could build a ticket kiosk so families could legally and easily launch their boats at Gratwick Park
• We introduced the Edge Step for spas

Thank you for being a part of these memories and many, many more! We appreciate you as a customer, coworker, supplier, and member of the community. We look forward to what the 2020s will bring!
