The Erie Canal is an important part of New York’s history and its creation led to an economic boom which gave the state the moniker of the Empire State. The Canal still has value today, more from a recreational and tourism standpoint, especially here in Niagara County where it bisects the county and runs from Middleport to North Tonawanda where our plant is located.
2017 marks the 200th anniversary of the Erie Canal and organizations across the state will be holding many events to mark the occasion. One of them – the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor – will be hosting the World Canals Conference in Syracuse from September 24th to 28th. This an annual conference about canals and other waterways worldwide. The first conference took place in 1988; policymakers, economic development personnel and others with an interest in canals gather together to learn more about them, exchange views, and enjoy and celebrate successful canal restoration projects.
Because of the significance of the Erie Canal to our community, state, and country, Confer Plastics is a proud silver level sponsor of the 2017 conference. You can see the list of sponsors here: http://wcc2017syracuse.com/sponsors/
