Confer Plastics’ vice-president Bob Confer is a 1996 graduate of SUNY College at Brockport. In the years since, he has maintained a close relationship with the College, especially the ice hockey program. Once again this year, Confer Plastics helped with a charity important to the program — Saves For a Cure.

Saves for a Cure is a non-profit, charitable organization started by Bob’s friend Todd Sheridan (class of 2011), a former Brockport goalie and one of Brockport’s all-time greatest players. Todd holds is the College’s all-time leader in goals-against average (3.07), career wins (29) and saves percentage (.904).

In 2005 Todd was diagnosed with cancer, given a 70% chance of survival and told he’d never play hockey again. Todd beat cancer and the odds and then had quite the career at Brockport, as made evident by his career numbers and the team’s first-ever playoff victories which occurred with Todd in net.

With his success story as its backdrop, Saves For a Cure oversees a variety of fundraisers, including the annual Saves For a Cure games. All proceeds from any Saves For a Cure event or activity go to the children’s cancer clinic at Strong Memorial Hospital.

The Brockport men’s ice hockey team hosted its seventh annual Saves For a Cure weekend on Friday, November 14th and Saturday, November 15th when their rivals Geneseo and Canton came to town.

The highlight of the games was an auction whereby fans bid on the special jerseys being worn during each of the two games. Confer Plastics helped purchase the jerseys. Our logo appeared on all of the Saves For a Cure jerseys, right where the captain’s “C” would normally be.

This year’s jersey auction set an all-time high — a whopping $7,000 was collected from the auction!

Thank you to all the fans who made it a huge success!
